INGREDIENTS
500g of bread Flour
1 tbsp of active dry yeast
1/2 cup of sugar
2 tbsp of powdered milk
1 egg
1 cup of warm water
45g of margarine or butter (melted)
A pinch of salt
DIRECTIONS
In a small bowl, mix yeast with some warm water and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes frothy. This shows the yeast is active.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and powdered milk (if using).
In another bowl, mix the melted butter and milk powder and add the frothy yeast mixture.
Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing with your hands or a spoon until a dough forms. If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour. If it’s too dry, add a splash of water.
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
Punch down the risen dough to release air. Shape it into round rolls and place it in a greased bread pan.
Cover the dough again and let it rise for about 30–45 minutes until it doubles in size.
Preheat your oven to 175°C. Bake the bread for 25–30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool. Serve plain, with butter or with your favorite spread and juice.
